This is the third poll in the fifth album by "artists" A to Z series. Before that I did a "Bands" fifth album A to Z series. I have tried to avoid collaborations, archival works, most posthumous releases and I have tried to stick with studio albums in these series. While I have tried to reference various sources, sometimes it can be confusing and expect some errors. I have tried to present a variety of styles for the artist names while highlighting various better known artists (ideally with fairly known and well-rated albums). Hopefully many here can find something to like, and please mention any others that fit and you like.
Feel free to vote for an artist's album in this list that you enjoy no matter how limited your knowledge, and despite how many you might enjoy. I have opted to not make this multiple votes, but of course one can mention all one likes (and even dislikes) in a post as well as any others not listed. I edited this down from a much longer list of artists, some of which were quite big names but the albums were considered poor, had very few ratings, or didn't fit in certain ways. Still, a number of these are hardly the top of the game, like Bo Hansson (all of his earlier albums I would have much rather included). An album here that really strikes me as a masterpiece of the artist's work is Roy Harper's Stormcock, and that great album will get my vote. I also like Mort Garson's Signs of the Zodiac - Aries. And I love Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage. Peter Hammill's Nadir's Big Chance is another well liked by me and I have enjoyed that Eddie Henderson (but his earlier albums I prefer, especially his first). Tough choice but I ultimately went with Tigran Hamasyan over Steve Hillage and Allan Holdsworth

Genesis fans hate Cured, but I'm not a Genesis fan, so that's my vote.

This is a list of albums that I either don't know or am not particularly fond of. Probably the Steve Hillage album is my favourite, but I haven't listened to it in ages. (Not so long ago I listened to Nadir's Big Chance, but that isn't really my cup of tea.)

Don't know if you'd like it, but an album I discovered due to researching for this poll (aka scrawling through the letters at PA) is Patrick Gauthier's Dans l'Entrelacs des Roses-Pierres from 2022. He was a member of Weidorje, Heldon, Magma, I've been into music by him for about two decades now, and pushed for him to be in PA as he had been rejected before as I recall for some reason, for his 1981 album Bébé Godzilla (1981). Very much my cup of tea even if not yours: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mVw2P83QMSfUbW-OvMeTB8QffHR0hyx6k Recommended to those into gentler jazzy Zeuhl. very reminiscent of music like parts of Magma's E-Re, Félicité Thösz, some Offering, and various Zeuhl albums. Not groundbreaking, but lovely. |
